Earlier this week, I attended an insightful event with Hays on UK Salary & Recruiting Trends to learn more about what they're observing across a range of areas from both candidates and employers. Here are some key highlights 👇:
💡 50% of employers in the City of London are recommending the use of AI tools, yet 82% of employees haven't received any training to up-skill in using AI. 🤯😳
Think of that what you will! Personally, I believe AI is here to stay, and we should adopt technology where it enhances and supports our work. However, the ethical, legal, and practical considerations around AI usage remain significant, especially as the UK currently has no overarching legislation regulating the use of AI.
In contrast, New York has introduced the 'AI in Hiring Law', which regulates automated employment decisions and requires organisations to audit their use of AI in key decision-making. Could this be a glimpse into the UK's future? Time will tell!
📉 94% of employers have faced skills shortages in the past 12 months. 📈 72% of employers are now open to hiring professionals without all the required skills and open to up-skilling instead.
This data highlights the growing challenges organisations face in hiring while underscoring an exciting opportunity for both businesses and candidates. Employers are shifting focus to nurturing and developing talent rather than expecting "ready-made" hires.
What matters most to job seekers?
Key Takeaways: Salary transparency remains important, but trends are shifting. Industries like tech, once known for attracting talent with high salaries, are seeing candidates increasingly focus on culture, security, and flexibility - especially in light of economic uncertainty and redundancies.
